Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)

Introduction

Laboratories are under increasing pressure to increase productivity and reduce costs. The implementation of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is one way of achieving these goals. However, most LIMS automate the status quo that may not be the most efficient way to automate a laboratory. To get the most from your Information Technology (IT) investment should the laboratory processes be redesigned or simplified? The aim of this short course is to give participants the tools to implement a LIMS effectively.

The course is highly interactive. Participants are expected to contribute their views and experiences to the course. Course material will be presented and discussed; participant experiences and problems will be discussed. Workshops using case study material will be used to assimilate the concepts presented.

Objectives

The course will concentrate on LIMS from two perspectives:

Product: LIMS (it's positioning within an organization and interaction with other Departments and systems). Process: Change and project management (neglect of this side of the equation means that many implementations will fail). Participants will be using case study material during the workshop sessions; these will involve various phases of a LIMS project for the well-known solution.

Training Methodology

This is an interactive course. There will be open question and answer sessions, regular group exercises and activities, videos, case studies, and presentations on best practice. Participants will have the opportunity to share with the facilitator and other participants on what works well and not so well for them, as well as work on issues from their own organizations. The online course is conducted online using MS-Teams/ClickMeeting.

Who Should Attend?

Laboratory managers and senior staff, computer professionals, and quality assurance personnel involved in a LIMS project.
