Introduction
SQA Internal Verifier Training ensures that an organization’s Internal Verifiers are experienced Assessors and subject matter experts, and that they use standard internal verification techniques required by a recognized awarding body such as the SQA. ECOMAN is an official Scottish Qualifications Authority Approved Centre using its competency management process and competency standards. ECOMAN can train and issue SQA qualifications for Assessors and Internal Verifiers for clients involved in competency assessments.
The assessment of employees at the workplace is a critical component of an organization’s competency management process. The Internal Verifier monitors the assessment process and verifies that each assessment conducted by assessors is following the correct process.
The many benefits of SQA Internal Verifier qualification include the following:
· Enables Internal Verifiers are internationally recognized and accepted by industry bodies such as OPITO.
· Provide certification of competence for those involved in assessing/internally verifying learners undertaking National and International endorsed qualifications or similar competency-based training programs, including Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs), National Qualifications Authority (NQA), and International Vocational Qualification).
- Enables Internal Verifiers will be recognized as qualified and competent workplace Internal Verifiers.

Training Methodology
This training program uses case studies, group discussion, reflection activities supported by video materials and exercises to help you apply what you learn to your work situation. ECOMAN can provide mentor-led virtual Internal Verifier training and coach and support portfolio preparation to enable an organization’s Internal Verifier candidates to gain internationally recognized Internal Verifier Qualification through the SQA. The Internal Verifier training engages the participants through a blended learning experience including e-Learning, theory, interactive discussions and hands-on exercises. The e-Learning modules will provide participants with an understanding of the internal verification process including the key areas of focus, internal verification tools, and methods. An appointed and suitably qualified ECOMAN mentor will help participants progress through the e-Learning modules, answer the questions, help in portfolio preparation, and assess the Internal Verifier candidates to ensure the candidate is able to conduct impartial, consistent, and thorough internal verifications.
Who Should Attend?
There are no prerequisites to accessing this course however delegates (called Verifier/assessor – candidates) should have access to two people who are working, using a set of standards such as those provided by a national awarding/standard-setting body or the candidates’ employer, in order to be able to achieve the L&D9Di workplace evidence requirements
Course Outline
The 2 days induction workshop consists tutorial led the discussion and practical exercises in which the following topics are covered:
- Preparing to carry out internal Quality Assurance
- Planning internal Quality Assurance
- Carrying out planned monitoring of the quality of assessments
- Providing assessors with feedback, advice, and support to help them maintain and improve their assessment practice
- Meeting appropriate external Quality Assurance requirement
Following completion of the training, supported by their EcoMan allocated Assessor, verified candidates will return to their workplace with a requirement to conduct verification of two assessors, each of whom is working with two candidates and which covers a minimum of three assessment decisions in total.
The verification evidence generated by verifier-candidates in the workplace should cover all of the requirements set out within the L&D11 Unit, to include:
- Participation in standardization activities, along with assessors to discuss assessment-related issues and areas for improvement.
- Observation of assessors as they provide feedback on assessment to their candidates.
- Observation of the verifier-candidate by the EcoMan assessor, or equivalent NVQ assessor, monitoring the practices of one of their assessors carrying out an assessment in the workplace
At the end of the training and coaching, the candidates will have the skill set to effectively run and manage internal verification and, upon successful completion of internal assessments, candidates will receive the appropriate certificate of their achievements.
Professional Recognition & Accreditations
EcoMan is an SQA approved center with number: 3023516. There is no formal exam, however, as part of the evidence requirements verifier-candidates are required to complete a knowledge test for each of points 4’a’ to ‘e’ above, to be judged by the EcoMan allocated assessor as part of the overall submission against the L&D11 requirements
- On successful completion of the workplace evidence requirements, verifier candidates will receive the L&D11 certificate from the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).
- A certificate for the L&D11 will not be issued in anything less than 10 weeks following registration with the awarding body (SQA).
- There is no expiry for the L&D11 certificate however it is required that regular assessment activity, as well as continuous professional development (CPD), is undertaken in order to ensure that current skills and knowledge is maintained over time.
