Mechanical and Rotating Equipment Troubleshooting and Maintenance

Introduction

The course will introduce delegates to the different types of pumps, Compressors, Turbines and Fan/ Blowers and their associated terminology. Centrifugal and positive-displacement pumps, compressors, Turbines and Fan/ Blowers packing, mechanical seals and sealing systems, bearings and couplings will all be discussed.

The application of the different types of pumps Turbines and Fan/ Blowers and compressors will be discussed along with their suitability for different operational duties. Pump operation, troubleshooting and maintenance will be dealt with in-depth.

The highlights of this course are:

  • Compressors and compression systems
  • Pumps and pumping systems
  • Fan/ Blowers systems
  • Turbines systems
  • Discussion of mechanical and dry gas seal design and associated issues
  • Predictive Maintenance techniques

Objectives

Most of plant’s equipment are rotary. Therefore, understanding the principles of rotating equipment is very essential. Identification of failure modes and monitoring methods of failure symptoms are important as well, for establishing the most effective maintenance program. This course begins with discussing the definition of rotating equipment, their types and their primary functions, as well as the general characteristics of rotating equipment in relation with their performance. Then, a detailed discussion on primary rotating equipment, namely pumps, compressors, turbines and fans/blowers, will be given. The discussion includes the classification for each type, the performance characteristics and the frequent failure modes. This course is closed with a procedure to conduct alignment of axles and predictive maintenance for rotating equipment.

Training Methodology

The training methodology is interactive with group exercises and is suitable for all employees involved in functions management. The pace and level of the training workshop is customized to the understanding of the delegates. Ongoing back-up and support is available after the training on request to the supplier, and the training course is also available for in-house presentation as well as for “Competency Transfer”.

Who Should Attend?

  • Supervisors, Team Leaders and Professionals in Maintenance, Engineering and Production.
  • It is suitable for Professionals who expect to become involved at any stage in project applications and applicable maintenance technologies.
  • The course will also benefit anyone those wishes to update themselves on pump, turbine, fans, blowers and compressor technology, judge the suitability of different types of pumps and compressors for their needs, and learn how to operate and maintain them for the benefit of their organizations.
